Are Handheld Gaming Consoles Making A Comeback?
I remember the days of childhood playing games on the various handheld consoles I’ve had. Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, and the PlayStation Portable (PSP) are just the few consoles I’ve played on. My favorite games I’ve played that were huge in my childhood were Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow. My friends and I would come together, battle each other, trade Pokémon, and exchange information. We’ve had so much fun. Good times.
The last handheld consoles were the PlayStation Vita and the Nintendo 3DS and I haven’t heard anything new for a while. There were emulators and handheld consoles that let you play retro games from back in the day. Nintendo released their Nintendo Switch in 2017 and the Nintendo Lite in 2019, which sparked life back into the handheld gaming console market. This begs the question, was this a sign of a comeback for handheld consoles?
Since Nintendo released their Switch Lite, other companies have been working behind the scenes on their own devices. One of them is Valve with the release of the Steam Deck in February 2022. Recently, Asus released their first handheld gaming console, the Rog Ally. Both companies produced great products for millions to enjoy.
